| Club Philosophy and Long Term Athlete Development |
Since inception, the Junior Development Program at Pacific Athletics has followed the guidelines of Athletics Canada's Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
Under LTAD, the frequency of
competition and the selection of events are limited to enable a
progression of skill learning and training. In the 10 to 14 age group,
there are two phases: "Learning to Train" and "Training to Train".
During these developmental phases the focus is on learning skills and
the ABC's of athletics (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed).
Click to download Athletics Canada's LTAD information brochure.
Athletics Canada has announced event changes for athletes ages 9 to 17 years. BC Athletics has voted to go ahead with the Midget (14/15) and older age group changes for both track and field events beginning in April, 2010.
One of the results of this decision for 2010 is that the oldest JD athlete year (age 14 as of December 31, 2010, birth year 1996) will now be grouped with the Midget 15 athletes at the BC Championships Track and Field meet, July 16-18, 2010 in Abbotsford. Only JD athletes ages 10-13 (birth years 2000 - 1997) will be able to attend the BCJD Track and Field Championships in Kamloops July 30-August 1, 2010.
JDs age 9 to 13 years will have event changes for both track and field delayed until April 2011. At this time the JD 9 to 13 changes are only PROPOSED as more work needs to be done to confirm all details of the events changes with the BC Athletics JD Committee and the BC Athletics Board of Directors.

| Competitions |
The 2010 JD Meet Schedule can be found here |
| Competition Event Selection |
Competition is used to measure an athlete's personal progress
and is not to be perceived as an end in itself. Winning is
de-emphasized...personal improvement is emphasized.
Each athlete will be limited to 2 running events plus a relay and 3
field events during a single day of competition per weekend. Each
athlete may only do one running event of 600m or longer on one day.
In order to achieve the correct balance of training sessions to competitive sessions, it is suggested that JD Athletes compete in only one day of a 2 day meet. If attending both days, athletes should follow their coaches advice on event selection and participation.

Code of Conduct
|
Athletes representing Pacific Athletics are expected to observe the BC Athletics code of conduct at all times.
http://www.bcathletics.org/main/codesofconduct.htm
|
| Club Volunteers |
The club relies on volunteers to run the club as well as to raise funds
for the operation of the club. Volunteer time from parents to perform
activities for the operation of the club is required, for activities from collecting and keeping membership records to statistics and volunteer officiating.
|
| Fundraising |
Fundraising is necessary to purchase equipment, pay meet entry fees and in some cases subsidize travel costs to meets.
The club has 2 main fundraisers each year:
SPRING: Manure Sale
FALL: Turkey Sale
Many JD athletes have earned enough credits to cover their entire membership fee through participation in these fundraisers.
The 2010 Spring Manure Sale fundraiser will be held the weekend of
March 27/28, 2010! Further information will be posted on the main page
of this website under the Fundraising section. Please mark these dates
on your calendars and plan to participate.
NOTE - only older (non-JD) athletes are expected to shovel the manure into bags for distribution. All JD age athletes
(whether new or returning) are expected to participate in this
fundraiser by selling bags of manure; in addition to helping athletes
offset their membership fees via earning athlete credits for each bag
sold, we depend heavily on your participation to help fund equipment
purchases for the JD program.

BCJD Championships
|
For those athletes who plan to participate in the BC Junior Development
Championships (July 30th to August 1st in Kamloops) additional training
will be available in July.
|
| JD Practice Calendar
|
Certain dates will be scheduled on alternate days or a 1/2 hour later
start time due to Stadium bookings. Refer to the Junior Development
2010 Schedule (will be posted to the website and distributed to all
athletes via email), for alternate training days and times.
